Motvarjevci Biogas Plant

Client/investor: Panvita Ekoteh d.o.o.

Project category: Ecology and energy

Project timeline: 2007 - 2008

Project status: The project has been completed

Description of the project

At the Motvarjevci Biogas Plant, biogas is produced using green biomass and the chicken manure and liquid manure from the Motvarjevci and Jezera farms. The plant’s nominal electric output is 0.83 MW. The plant generates 6.8 GWh of electricity and 7.8 GWh of heat annually. The plant’s CO2 emission savings come in at 3,000 tons per year. The Motvarjevci Biogas Plant thus completes the entire natural cycle by taking by-products from fields, processing, animal breeding and food, and then producing biogas from it, and finally returning the remaining waste back to the field as fertiliser.

Project achievements

Using an advanced concept for the mixing technique and the input of substrate, the anaerobic digestion process is highly stable and enables the plant to operate for more than 8,200 hours per year. The organic fertiliser is of better quality after anaerobic digestion as there is more nitrogen available and because the unpleasant odour during fertilisation is reduced. The need for mineral fertilisers is also reduced.
