Nemščak Biogas Plant
Client/investor: Panvita Ekoteh d.o.o.
Project category: Ecology and energy
Project timeline: 2006 - 2008
Project status: The project has been completed
Description
The Nemščak Biogas Plant uses liquid manure from the Nemščak pig farm, category 2 and 3 animal by-products as well as green biomass for the production of biogas. Animal by-products are thermally treated prior to being fed into the biogas plant, namely by way of sterilisation and hygienisation processes, while waste air from the process is treated using UV oxidation. The biogas plant serves the heating needs of the Nemščak farm using the heat obtained from cogeneration. The plant’s nominal electric output is 1.46 MW. The plant generates 10 GWh of electricity and 11 GWh of heat annually. The plant’s CO2 emission savings come in at 9,000 tons per year. The Nemščak Biogas Plant thus completes the entire natural cycle by taking by-products from fields, processing, animal breeding and food, and then producing biogas from it, and finally returning the remaining waste back to the field as fertiliser.
Project achievements
By integrating the animal by-product processing system we have managed to broaden the conventional biogas plant concept. The efficiency of biogas conversion to electricity and heat is very high (in excess of 80%), and the processed sludge is highly stabilised as well.
