COLLECTION AND TREATMENT OF WASTEWATER IN THE COSTAL WATER CATCHMENT AREA – CONSTRUCTION OF SEWAGE SYSTEM AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF PIRAN

The management of the construction of the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant of Piran. Treatment is based on the procedure of biological sludge suspension and aerobic sludge stabilisation with the elimination of carbon, nitrous and phosphorous compounds. The biological process is adapted to the inflow with high chloride the sequential pools passes through the flow meter and UV disinfection, then an submerged release into the Adriatic Sea. Excess sludge is directed into the sludge dehydrator and container, and from there into a centrifuge for mechanical dewatering. All structures are roofed and the polluted air is vacuumed through air biofilms and released into the environment. The covers of the sequential pools accommodate the managing authority’s car park.
Client/investor: Municipality of Piran
User: JAVNO PODJETJE OKOLJE PIRAN D.O.O.
Department: Environment and Energy
Period: 2007-2010
Short introduction: Plant capacity: 33,000 PE
Achievements of the project: In spite of the extremely high and fluctuating concentration of chlorides on the inflow to the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant (8,000-13,000 mg/l), it functions with above average effective treatment. The quality of the effluent is well below the maximum values set out in the Urban Waste Water Directive.
